Annual Summer Scheme

Our annual summer scheme is a worthwhile volunteering experience.

Each year a summer scheme is held in the village of Kajabang for nursery, primary and senior students. We recruit Gambian teachers to lead on the scheme and have several young Gambian volunteers nominated by the elders of the village to support the scheme.

We run 3 nursery and 4 primary classes from 9am – 1pm. Sessions are dependent on the agreed focus of the annual scheme but we ensure there is a lot of fun with positive learning outcomes for all involved. The senior session is run in the afternoon.

We offer a varied programme including:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Environment and conservation
  • Health
  • Geography
  • Sports
  • Arts & crafts
  • Lots of Fun!

We welcome volunteers from all over the world who come and help make the summer scheme a successful event.

I have visited twice, first time for 2 weeks and the second time to do the summer scheme for a month, words cannot possibly describe how this place has changed me and my outlook. I miss this place and the people so much. This picture was taken on the last day of the summer scheme x – Jessica Brenton
